How to Recycle Scrap Metal

Do you have old metal wiring lying around your property? Or metal leftover from a project that you completed years ago? Or perhaps even old automobiles on your property, which were once kind of interesting, but are now just collecting rust and taking up space? Chances are high that you probably have multiple different forms of scrap metal on your property, all of which could be recycled. Recycling scrap metal is not only good for the environment and the economy, but it also means more money in your pocket – at Belson Steel Center Scrap Inc., we pay top dollar for scrap metal. Here are the steps that you need to take if you’re ready to recycle your scrap metal–

Get it Together

The first step in recycling your scrap metal is just to get organized – that is, collect the metal that you want to recycle. At Belson Steel Center Scrap Inc., we buy a huge selection of materials, including:

  • Batteries;
  • Old vehicles and equipment;
  • All ferrous and nonferrous metals (i.e., steel, iron, tin, copper, brass, etc.);
  • Electric motors;
  • Electronics;
  • Cellphones;
  • Whole computers;
  • Radiators; and
  • More.

So, as you start collecting materials on your property to recycle, don’t sell yourself short. Collect metal-containing junk from the various parts of your property, and remember that you probably have more that can be recycled than you think.

Sort Through Metal, Prepare for Recycling

Once you have a good collection of metal that you think can be recycled, the next step is to make sure that you don’t have anything in your collection that can’t be recycled (i.e., materials that contain CFC refrigerants) and make sure that materials you plan to recycle are prepped to go. For example, if you plan to recycle a bunch of old aluminum cans, you should make sure those cans are empty and have been rinsed out.

In terms of separating ferrous from nonferrous materials, this is a project that our team is happy to handle on your behalf. If you have any questions about identifying your scrap or what materials you can recycle, we encourage you to call us directly or stop by our scrap yard.

Bring it Into Our Scrap Facility

Finally, once you have collected and organized your scrap, all you need to do is bring it into one of our scrap recycling facilities for processing. Note that we also maintain box drop-off/pick-up services, where we provide a box that you can load and then either drop off at our location or that we can pick up. On-site container services are especially helpful for industrial businesses with large scrap production outputs.
